Paver Sealers

No Sealer

Just like paints at the hardware store, sealers have different finishes. Some will be invisible and not change the appearance of the paver surface. Others will put a shine much like a semi-gloss paint or produce a high gloss finish like a freshly waxed car.
The glossier sealers may be the option for certain styles.

Much like finish, today’s sealers can also enhance or darken the color of the paving stones. There are some water-based products in the market that can enhance the color, but to really darken the finish often requires a solvent-based sealer. Do not confuse color enhancing with finish.
Some will darken the color with no sheen, while others
may not darken the color but put a high gloss on the surface.
Solvent Based Wet Sealer

Sealers can also add a layer of stain resistance to the pavers. They often prevent stains from being able to quickly penetrate into the stone and give you time to treat it to minimize its effect on the pavers. Different sealers have different levels of resistance and some actually keep the stain on the surface so it can be wiped up easily.

Sealers typically do more than just seal the pavers. They also stabilize the joint sand by binding the sand particles together. Some paver shapes with larger false or wide joints may require the use of a stabilizer to keep the sand in the joint. The stabilized sand prevents seeds from germinating, insects from burrowing and from eroding out of the joint on a slope or near a pool.

Higher quality paving stone sealers are engineered to penetrate into the paver so that the surface will not become slippery when wet.A higher price tag is not an indication of quality, and it is important to look at the life expectancy of the sealer. Lower quality sealers may need to be reapplied more frequently and be more costly in the long term.Gather as much information about the sealer you plan to use so that expectations do not exceed its capabilities.

Are Granite Pavers the Best Material Choice for Your Patio Project?

granite paver patio is a beautiful addition to any home. While concrete is one of the most common materials used for patios, it isn't the best for durability. Granite pavers offer a lot of benefits that concrete, gravel, brick and even asphalt do not. If you are thinking about investing in a new patio, there are several things that you should know beforehand. Issues such as repairs, durability and maintenance should be taken into account before you make your material decision.

Here are some of the advantages to using granite pavers as the material for your new patio.

Granite pavers are one of the best materials to make repairs with. Even if you take the best care of your granite paver patio, accidents and forces of nature are inevitable. In the event that you do have to make a repair to the patio, it will be quick and easy. Because pavers are installed one by one, a single paver can be removed and replaced with very little cost. After the paver has been removed, a new paver can be installed and set without major reconstruction.

The durability of granite pavers is their primary advantage. Concrete can shrink and crack. Asphalt can also crack due to high temperatures and direct sunlight. Brick can be chipped easily and gravel will shift due to foot traffic. Granite pavers are the immediate choice for a material with your patio because they will not flake, chip or crack under pressure. Granite pavers are rated up to 24,000 PSI making them 4 times stronger than concrete.

Compared to other materials, granite pavers are the best choice on the market. Concrete can stain very easily. Even if a glass of wine or a small amount of grease falls onto concrete you could be looking at the high cost of pressure washing. Brick stains are also a hassle and must be washed several times a year. Granite pavers do not have to be maintained at all. Natural rain will remove dirt and grime from the pavers so you can enjoy your patio without worrying about the longevity or aesthetics of the pavers.
